OUGD504 - Studio Brief 2 - Real Estate Interface Initial Concept

Researching into map interfaces has created a tangent where another initial concept has been developed. This idea involves integrating a map interface into a real estate application.

Being a student and having to look for a house myself last year has brought me in contact with various confusing and stressful issues involving the whole house buying / selling market which i believe can be simplified and resolved. Personally, I don't see the need in estate agents at all, if this unnecessary step was taken out of the equation, the process could be cheaper and much less complicated. As Edward Tufte states,

"Overload, clutter and confusion are not attributes of information, they are failures of design"

An interface such as Ebay is extremely successful at allowing the user to sell their material properties without the need for an auctioneer and the additional costs which would follow. Ebay's platform however, is very broad and makes buying and selling houses using this platform quite difficult. A more streamlined service which integrates some of the user friendly ideologies of Ebay, along with detailed property development information and a user friendly process to aid with finding houses on the property market would create a truly unique interface and specific interface and experience for the consumer.

Combining interfaces such as Maps, Ebay and Real Estate Websites into one platform could simplify and streamline the process and offer the consumer all of the necessary components to finding a house all in one place.

Identifying the demographic audience -

The app must be user friendly towards new house buyers/viewers whilst also obtaining features desirable for landlords to use the app.
