Whole food stores in Leeds have been contacted in an attempt to not only find out what measures are put in place to encourage healthy eating amongst children, but to also enquire about possibly stocking my product within the store to gather some valuable statistics on how much of an impact packaging and design has in real world situations.
Through this study I intend to determine aspects such as product distribution and customer range.
Hello there,
I am a Leeds College of Art student currently looking at the way which fast/sugary food is packaged and branded compared to the packaging of healthy food. I am sure you are aware of the millions of pounds which companies such as McDonalds spend each year in oder to entice children to buy their products, often using toys and bright packaging to their advantage. I am looking to conduct an experiment to which I could get some statistics from which can be put into action to hopefully get my idea into large supermarkets which in turn, will get children eating better food.
I have conducted experimentation and made prototype fruit characters by dipping skinned fruit in hot wax and applying goggly eyes etc... The hot wax is completely safe similar to the wax on cheese and does not affect the integrity of the fruit inside. I would like to put a research experiment into action in your store by coming in and making these characters on some of your fruit using this wax sustainable packaging. I would then like to record how many young children purchase the fruit in comparison to the normal fruit which you sell. I will use the statistics to put a report together which I can hopefully propose to some of the large fruit corporations to hopefully get my idea put into action on a larger scale and battle the unhealthy food market getting young children eating more healthy.
Thank you for your time,
Hope to hear from you soon,
Dylan Tai Stott
