OUGD503 - Collaborative Practice - Script Writing & Character Overview

As a team, we wrote a draft script for our first filming scene next week. Sadly, because of travelling to Berlin, I will not be able to attend the filming induction however, I will be back in time to take part in the filming of the pilot teaser next Friday. This has been effectively communicated to the group and worked around to accommodate with everyones schedules.

AFTER LIFE CRISIS

“Pilot”

FILMED AND SUBMITTED SHORT PILOT

FADE IN:

INT. JAMES’ FLAT - DAY

James arrives home through the front door after a day at work, hangs up jacket, puts on slippers, cooks, plays online chess, does chores.

INT. JAMES’ FLAT - NIGHT

After winding down, James begins to get ready to go to bed and goes to brush his teeth.

(tense/atmospheric music begins)

  1. James looks at himself in the mirror. Hears a slight bang from outside the room behind him. Stops dead, spins head towards sound and listens (3-5s)
  2. James shrugs off sound and puts toothpaste on brush.
  3. James Raises toothbrush to mouth, hears what sounds like a can opening coming from the same direction. Spins around to listen.
  4. James shrugs this off once again, brushes teeth.
  5. While rinsing toothbrush James hears one last, louder bang emanating from the bedroom. Throws down what he’s doing and runs through to his bedroom to look.
  6. Searches around the room, finds nothing. Uneasily gets into bed and tries to get to sleep.

As James starts to fall asleep. A mysterious voices echoes from behind him:

GARY
Move over a bit mate!

As James is laid on his side facing out from the bed, a ghostly head peeks up from behind him momentarily, just out of James’ field of view. Panicked and shocked by the voice, James sharply sits up in bed, spinning to look behind him, but sees nothing. James lays down, visibly shaken.
INT. JAMES’ FLAT - DAY

(pov camera)

James wakes up, slightly confused and his vision is still blurry. He gets out of bed, rubs his eyes and slowly walks to the bathroom with his head down, looking at his feet.

James gets to the bathroom and looks up as he enters the threshold. There, with his vision still blurry and sleepy, he sees a ghost, as plain as day, sat on the toilet on what appears to be a mobile phone.

He stares in disbelief for a few seconds before falling back and passing out.

INT. JAMES’ FLAT - DAY

(pov camera)

James wakes up to see Gary towering over him, eating, with a halo of light from the ceiling.

GARY
You alright mate?

(pov camera ends)
James is still laid on the floor, with Gary hunched over him.

JAMES
(confused)
Am I dead?

GARY
(mumbled rant)
I don’t think so
(pause)
Do you have any more mayo, this
is a bit dry. I know, I probably
shouldn’t be having mayo with
the diet n’ all, but I guess
that doesn’t matter anymore…
(trailing off)

JAMES
(interrupting)
What’s goin on?
GARY
(mumbled rant)
Oh yeah, sorry, I should probably
explain.... I’m a ghost, they
said something about haunting,
unfinished business, spiritual
blah blah blah? I don’t really
know… Do you have any more mayo
or should I nip to the shops?

James stares blankly at Gary, Gary stares blankly back.

FADE OUT TO TITLE.
