OUGD603 - Brief 4 - Lifeshare Manchester Voluntary Work - Primary Research

Over the Christmas period, I volunteered at Lifeshare Manchester to help people homeless or sleeping rough. This was a great opportunity to also get some quality primary research from the company organisers, and the homeless people themselves about troubles faced in homelessness. I participated in everything from helping distribute food, clothes and general conversation / activities. I witnessed that most of the homeless people didn't look homeless at all, the company owners then informed me that homelessness isn't just living on the streets, they also help people who are sleeping rough, couch surfing or unemployed as these are all hidden forms of homelessness.

I spoke to some young lads in there who didn't look much different from your generic teenager however, they had no help from families or financial input and had limited opportunities for work. Some of these lads had been sleeping on friends couches for the past few years as their family had kicked them out of the house. Listening to personal stories like this really opened my eyes to see how little opportunities some young individuals are presented with in life.
