Following on from the body paint inspiration, I found some uv hand stamps which were used during the 80's-90's rave movement. These stamps hold a nostalgic resemblance and heavy relationship towards the illegal rave scenes and is still used today in many commercial nightclubs. This has given me the idea of possibly creating my own large stamp and using this to print onto the front cover of my publication.
After research into how stamps are made, a laser cutter is one possible process which can be used. Therefore, I have booked into a laser cutter induction and workshop to learn the skills needed to create my own hand stamp.
By using a stamp to print the book manually by hand, the design is then informed and produced in the exact same way that raves are entered. Each design is also then slightly different and therefore has unique characteristics that make every mass produced publication bespoke and individual. This individuality is exactly what kicked off the rave movement by rebelling against the regime set out by Margret Thatcher and her war on youth culture at the time. The process and final result also makes each book more desirable to the audience as our human infatuation with bespoke items is targeted. By using unconventional and unorthodox printing methods, the production of the cover then resinates with the uncommercial clubs and the anti socialist values held by ravers in the warehouse party era.
