OUGD603 - Brief 1 - Richard Hamilton - Artist Research

Having used first principle theory to determine which avenues are best to pursue in relation to visualising audio pieces, I uncovered that some kind of installation may be appropriate as this method allows for a multi-sensory experience. This influence has also evolved from the UNKLE exhibition I visited which used audio and visuals alongside each other to create a real atmosphere and aura.

Having noticed the effect which a physical experience can have on the target audiences emotions, I decided to research into the artist 'Richard Hamilton' and purchase his publication. This book showcases a compilation of different exhibitions, installations and vinyl album covers which the artist has produced.

The artist uses a multi layered process in many of his installations to create depth and variety, this allows the installation to be perceived differently from all angles of the room creating the illusion of a moving piece of art. This may be an interesting process to experiment with as there is lots of movement associated with music in the form of festivals and concerts. This constantly changing installation technique may create the illusion of dancing and movement within a scene.

Multi Layered Installation

The piece below is another example of movement within a still piece of art through the use of optical illusions on a wall.
