OUDG406 - Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Final Piece Developments

The images above are possible shots to develop further from from my Art School photoshoot which was conducted inside Leeds College of Art. I have just cropped the images above and used levels and curves on photoshop in order to balance out the shaded, dim and light tones.

I have also taken shots of me fallen asleep whilst drawing to represent Dream 3 however, I am not sure about the outcomes so i may have to re think how to represent dreaming

'The Less I Know The Better' has been represented in two different ways, I wanted to experiment with psychedelic patterns just like the paint within the music video however, the feedback John gave me was to use my own interpretations to represent the song title. Therefore, I have also experimented with ways to only show a segment of the notebook in order to represent 'the less the viewer knows the better'.

I have also conducted some high key studio environment shots using a soft box which was constructed in the graphics department after I had the studio lighting induction. The concept behind John Lennons Imagine was to let the viewer imagine the concept which the notebook is placed in. Therefore, I have shot the image in a high key studio environment so that the album cover has a plain background. The same concept also works with 'Clearest Blue' using a blue material as the backdrop.

OUGD404 - Studio Brief 2 - Initial Concept Ideas

I have sketched some initial ideas for cover design for my 10 page publication. Up to this point, I have come up with the name of 'Diversity' which is a fashion magazine which showcases diverse cultures from around the world. I have taken some slight inspiration from the magazine 'TripMag' which uses photography on interesting world issues.

I have also researched different possible stocks which could be used off GF Smiths

Ive included a tutorial I found online in order to help me remember the bookbinding technique shown above.

Ive also included the two other binds with similar tutorials

OUDG406 - Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Final Piece Developments

The two images below from the photoshoot at Beside Pianos are possible outcomes for At Last by Etta James However, I am undecided on which one as John Lennon uses a white piano in the music video for Imagine and therefore the album cover could have the wrong connotations and be misinterpreted. I have since asked my tutor John for feedback and he has said that it does not matter as the album covers should not be based on the music videos however, I still feel like I would like some more feedback for another perspective. I personally like the top image as I feel that it gives a more graphical perspective to the vinyl cover.

OUDG406 - Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Final Piece Developments

The two images above are from an urban photoshoot for the album cover 'Worry'. I wanted to keep a rustic city aesthetic to the covers whilst also keeping to the new digital music genre with a set of digital headphones.

The covers above are from a large photoshoot conducted inside Besbode Pianos using a large variety of authentic pianos as props for the song 'At Last' to keep in with the 1960's theme.

These two album covers are for the song 'Imagine', I wanted to use the concept of looking out of a window frame to represent imagining. However, I feel that the flowers in the image may represent the song 'The Less You Know The Better' as the hold female connotations.

OUDG406 - Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Final Piece Preperation

Over the weekend, I walked to Besbrode Pianos in Leeds and explained my project idea to the owner. He then let me use some of his pianos as props when taking photos for the secret 7 submission.

OUGD406 - Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Peer Feedback Contextual Placement Ideas

Yesterday, I pitched my idea to a critique group and asked what locations could relate to each song. As I have only been doing research into the song 'Dream 3', this was extremely beneficial.

Imagine -
Throw the book into the air
Looking out of the window
Window frame
Use a white studio background
On a sandy beach

The Less I Know The Better -
 Psychedelic Paint
Show less of the book, be ambiguous with the design

Dream 3 -
A person fallen asleep whist drawing the cassette

At Last -
Reading the cassette on the piano

Worry -
Urban Environment

Clearest Blue -
A blue sky
A blue swimming pool
On an inflatable in a swimming pool

Art School -
On an eisel
Drip paint over the sketch book
