In this small lecture we was introduced to some of the main aspects of a successful blog. One of the main points which i extracted from the lecture was that i should document broad research such as research into the sector of work and rival company's and look at brands which the target audience might also be interested in. Also I should create links between common denominators in terms of the branding and research branding and typography as a whole. In my Studio task, this has inspired me to search around Leeds for similar barbers, I have stumbled across a barbers called King Kobys and also looked into the logo design and some logo concepts created by other artists.
The concept art above is definitely the style of logo which i wish to create using hand rendered methods. Another method of deepening my research is by collecting primary research and photos. Because of this, I went into Barber Barber on Saturday, took some primary source photographs and had my hair cut to really enhance my first hand experience into the shops style and aura. I will include some of my edited images in my upcoming blog on Studio Brief 1.
I also learned that another key role in producing an effective blog is to develop and evaluate a range of possible responses in relation to feedback which I have received. One piece of feedback which i received from my crit session was to watch the television series 'Peaky Blinders', this series is apparently set in the 1940's which will hopefully increase my understanding on that era and some of the graphic design which was being produced at the time.
After the lecture I was instructed to find and analyse how other artist talks about their blog. The blog which i chose was Stride by Rosie Lee which is the branding of a running store located in Moscow.
Rosie Lee - Stride
The blog is small and concise but uses amazing graphic vocabulary such as envoking, accessible, principle and interactive consumer experience. The artist does not describe her work, instead she talks about the principle behind her design and how her design relates to things such as the interior design of the company. She explains how the negative space in the logo was inspired by a runners stride and also how the shape of the logo inspires the shape of the roof, walls and brand identity itself.
