In this project, it was my main goal to start out with no fixed idea in my head and develop my way finding system using different influences along my process. Working in this way has been very successful as my design developed again and again from my initial sketches using multiple examples of primary and secondary research. Obviously, Ben Kelly's brightly coloured interior design has been a big influence from near the start however, it was the critique sessions and professional talk which I found most beneficial in my concept development. The talk opened my mind to expanding my physical designs into a digital coexisting system. It also go me thinking about different possible materials such as wood and slate which influenced my 'This months top vinyls' way finding chart. Applying the concepts in my head to the primary source photographs was probably the biggest and most time consuming challenge as I wanted my designs to look as convincing as possible. It would have been more appropriate to print the designs and place them into concepts inside the store however, the staff would not allow this so the digital manipulation was my only option. It would have been favourable to have more time to work on the app if I continued with this project. The app is only in the early stages of development however, it is enough for this brief to get my concept across to the client.
Final critique comments from other students have suggested that the project has been a well thought out process which has had a broad range of research to clearly influence the direction of the project. It was also stated that it would have been nice to see more of the large body of primary source photographs utilised in the colour coded system. If I had more time on the project the store would have been further adapted within the way finding system possibly taking advantage of undernieth the stairs, toilets, exits and entrances.
