After going out for the meal at 'Lunya', I was shocked at how such an expensive high quality restaurant could have such a bad quality menu and branding. The food was amazing and I can see the traditional Spanish theme which the graphic designer was trying to achieve however, I personally think he has designed a childish, unprofessional brand mark. The font is hard to read with colours such as the blue on red which creates a blend which is unappealing and hard to read. The text on the logo is unbalanced with some letters having extremely thin lines in relation to other letters.
I feel that the main logo as a whole is illegible and does not work as a functional piece of type. The kerning between the 'S' and the 'T' in restaurant or the 'A' and the 'T' in catalonian is unbalanced in relation with other letters which lowers the texts readability factors. The designer has gone with an expressionist post modern approach to the branding where as I feel that modernism's form over function proposal would have been a more suitable suggestion for an expensive classy restaurant. All of the people eating wore suits and looked like professional business men, I feel that the branding is unsuitable for the preferred target audience.
I felt that I could produce a more legible menu which portrays a more professional style whilst keeping the theme of a Catalain Deli and Tapas Restaurant. The result of a section of my menu design is below The same geometric design would be continued across all three pages of the design if I was to continue on the whole menu.
