Being more in charge of the print and film based media, I was in charge of designing the printed flyer designs. I felt as though it was important to take influence from the handmade DIY promotional material designs of the warehouse rave era. Therefore, I decided to create a postmodern homage to this aesthetic style based around Punk and Generation-X influences. Most of the type was hand rendered with the block type also being mismatched and illegible. The map design in the bottom left was also hand drawn; it felt important to use the same production methods which would have been used around the rave generation therefore, only basic biro pens were used for the hand lettering and illustrations. The printing method was also informed by this period, black ink was printed onto basic coloured stock using a home printer in reference to the production methods used at the time.
Printing & Stock Choice
The black and white printing method chosen was cost effective, enabling us to get the most out of the allocated budget for printed material. Only £25 was spent on the stock and print of over 800 flyers, varying from A4, A5 and A6. The rest of the budget went to digital print, with over £75 being spent on 30 A3 posters, 10 A2 posters and stickers. In hindsight, it would have been more beneficial to allocate more money to my flyers as they resulted in the most publicity for our event.
