OUGD404 - Study Task 7 - Folds

To help define what a book can be, we looked at different folding methods which have been applied to a variety of diverse publications. I chose to analyse the book fold to the left as I found the use of contrasting stocks very unusual but successful. The publication also used altered page sizes alongside each other using large blocks of text on the smaller pages to balance the small use of image on the larger pages. This technique of using small image on the large brown stock really took advantage of the white space to showcase more of the brown stock. This is a really successful example of white space as the pages could easily have just been enveloped in images.

After analysing this publication, I decided that i wanted to create a small mock up paper publication to showcase a similar fold. I wanted to experiment with the use of negative space just like the booklet above. The finished study task publication is an instruction manual instructing the fold of the booklet.
