OUGD603 - Brief 6 - German Techno Aesthetic Research

For the foreign typography project, I have decided top focus on German typography, therefore, it seemed appropriate to also look at the Berlin Techno scene to see if it could be integrated into my project. In this blog post I have mainly focused on the nightclub 'Berghain' as I visited and gathered primary research on the nightclub whilst on the Berlin trip with university. Unfortunately, you cannot take photographs of the nightclub from the inside so I have included some artwork from an illustrator who really depicts the culture and aesthetics through his sketches from inside the nightclub. The culture is intense, underground and raw which is the type of aesthetic I could look at adopting within my typography.

I have also visited the following clubs to gather similar research:
  • Berghain
  • Tresor
  • Suicide Circus
  • Kit Kat Club

Berghain and KitKat Club come with a strict no photos policy, but Felix Scheinberger has found a colorful solution for documenting what's behind Berlin's toughest doors.
