OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Halftone Experimentation

As the brief states that the poster should be 'celebratory' and not an advertisement poster, I did not see it necessary to include a heavily type based design as it would hinder the celebration aspect of the print. Therefore, it seemed more appropriate to utilise some of the photography taken at the event as this will help solidify the poster as past tense, in turn providing more nostalgia towards the viewer. Designs which are only type based signify that the poster is merely advertising promotional material for an event which has not taken place yet.

The only problem with using photography from the event is that the camera quality at the turn of the century was a lot lower than it is now. As can be seen in the image above, the resolution has been drastically effected by this lack of technology at the time. One solution to solve this problem is to turn the image into a halftone, this effect can help to hide the poor quality of the image. This halftone technique also lends itself quite nicely to the screen printing process and therefore is another justification to choose screen printing above other traditional printing methods.
